Quick question for those of you who set their WB to Cloudy. Do you set it to cloudy outdoors on a sunny day too?

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

Thanks Maureen! I'm really hoping to capture a spectacular sunrise and sunset. *Fingers crossed*

I typically only set my WB for "cloudy" when it IS cloudy but my photography teacher also said to use it when photographing the leaves in autumn. I haven't had the chance to try it yet though so I can't say how good it does or doesn't look.

I shoot RAW, so I don't believe that WB is affected in the CR2 file information. I do know that it does affect the jpeg file shown on the LCD.

Hi ladies. Firstly, apologies if this reply pops up twice, I thought I posted it once but came back and it had disappeared. Whoops - user error I think.

I hope you all have a great weekend. I'm dog training tomorrow, then lunching with my Mum and MIL on Sunday - it's also my Lola's birthday (my eldest dog), she's 10 and my most special girl of all, so I'll be spending lots of time hugging her I expect :D

And a happy birthday to you dog, Penel. My oldest dog is Bodie, a 14 year old Jack Russell terrier. Love the rascal.

Happy birthday Lola, my eldest hound Digby is in the middle here at 12 years.

Only when it is cloudy - but I am also shooting raw so really only for the previews.

Took the new 70-300L to Richmond Park today, didn't get anything brilliant but I think a couple of the deer came out OK

comments and criticism welcome.

And one of my youngest hound, Basil. I usually find him quite a hard subject as he is small (miniature dachshund), fast and has a dark face which I manage to underexpose often. He was in hunting mode today and nearly caught a squirrel which ran past at least three perfectly usable trees before going up the fourth!

Penel are you going to Crufts next week? I will be there Thursday for the hounds.

Yes, she wouldn't smile much but when I made noises at her, she raspberried me right back with a twinkle in her eye. She is also just starting to sit so trying to get a shot of her upright & not bobbling all over was a bit of a challenge. :) Gotta love babies. They are so amazing to me. Next week our daughter goes back to work so we will add Tristan in to our weekly life. He will come 3 days one week and 2 days the next as I will trade off with his other grandma. I can't wait to get him all to myself :)

Maureen - how precious is it for you to have such close relationships with your grandchildren! I try and be as appreciative and thankful as I can for my grandparents. When we were younger we would often have sleepovers at their house on Friday nights, then head out on Saturday morning to watch a dolphin show at the mall close to their house. My grandma would always have our favourite cereals (sugared ones that were never allowed in our house ), cookies, waffles for supper, cinnamon buns for breakfast ... it was so special. They even had us for a week usually once a year for a few years in a row when my parents went off for vacation. I really feel they helped raise us and I am so grateful for them investing in us! My favourite part now is them telling us stories about when we were little and the funny things we did and said - often stories we had no idea about because my parents didn't even remember some of them!

I actually kind of like this picture - I like being able to see it from his perspective.

Also - you were all talking about living in the city vs. in the country a few days ago ... I'm living at home right now, but getting anxious to leave and find my own place. As much as a place right in the city would be convenient, every time that I've gone out to a friend's place out in the country, I've always wanted to live like that. Now at my parents' house our backyard backs out into a field - this is the view out one of the kitchen windows.

I like it because even though we live right in the city, it feels like we don't really because of that view. So I'm torn - an acreage is way too big/expensive for just me, but I do want to live out of the city, maybe 10 minutes or so. I've been looking online for anyone wanting a renter in the basement of their acreage or something, haven't really found anything yet. Oh well, maybe some day ...

Well, I am back and posting here, hopefully. It's been a crazy last few weeks, I've barely had time to look through POTN or do much photo-related. I think things will be slowing down a bit now so looking forward to being back!

Stina, that's too bad about the bag! At 5'1" I'm always on the lookout for a good but not large bag. :) I recently picked up the ThinkTank CityWalker 20, which is about the outer limit of size for me, but I really like it. I'm thinking of complementing it with the CityWalker 10, we'll see how that goes.

Spring is on the way! It was rainy (real rain, not this gray skies and maybe misty junk we've had for weeks) today, and the crocuses are starting to bloom, so I took the macro lens to the park at lunch.

Yes; most of the time unless I'm at the beach where the glare on the white sand and water is too bright; then I use sun setting. I usually set to cloudy even on a bright day because I have found on my camera that even if I set my ISO to sun, the photos come out washed out more than set to cloudy. :D

I'd rather be shooting!

In the UK at the moment all we have are fond memories of bright and sunny, we seem to have been stuck with dull grey and wet for a long time!

What a day. I started out by photographing aPreemie baby boy; not even 6 lbs. yet. Just got through with him & I ran off to Aaron's first Little League game (they lost). When Nicholas saw me he stuck to me like glue the whole 2 hours. We played tractors (I brought some of his from here), we ran races (fat old Lady actually beat the little kid once or twice) and he sat in my lap and wouldn't let go of me the whole time. I was in Heaven. Aaron kept calling over and asked if I was having fun & asking Nick if he was happy to see me. Sad & happy at the same time. I am so glad I will get to see him every week until the middle of May. Then who knows.....

So, that all said, here is my teensy baby boy from today. :)

that's beautiful Maureen. I'm so pleased you had such a good time with the grandkids, so lovely for you. I hope it continues.

oooh. I'm saving too, for a 5D3.

Tis my beautiful girl's birthday today, she's 10 yrs old. She's had a life full of difficult health issues so to get her to double figures is quite miraculous. We have 6 dogs (2 cats and 4 chickens) but I have to say my bond with Lola is different to the others. She has such a pure soul, is kind and gentle to everyone and everything.

Mr Gundogs took the ones with me in (obviously d'oh!)

Awww, Penelope, what a sweet set, that is a beautiful dog.

Ashley, I said it in the other thread but it bears repeating - congrats on the new camera! I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it.

It's a beautiful sunny day here in Seattle today, and I'm trying really hard to talk myself into going for a walk. But my favorite city park is invaded by hordes of costumed Comic-Con attendees, and while I'd normally enjoy seeing the costumes, I'm not really in the mood to deal with crowds today, and I'm not feeling inspired to do any "city" shots in the downtown area, either. Sigh. Maybe I'll just stay home and finish cleaning the house.

I just finished a 4 hour photo shoot for a High School Senior gal. We drove all over this town & into the next county looking for cool places to use. :) It was actually a ton of fun!
Penel, lovely shots with your special doggy.Amazing how much we bond with them. We had a little weenie dog that died about 18 months ago at age 15 years who was the sweetest, most devoted little fellow. He adored my grandsons & watched over them faithfully. In his whole life I never heard a growl out of him, never saw his lip curl, never bit. We miss him so much to this day. Now we have our funny little Charlie rescue dog who brings a lot of happiness to our lives everyday with his silly ways.
