I don't understand. Why does your conscience keep you out of them? They are abandoned, are they not? Or is it illegal to go in for some reason?

Trespassing. These farmhouses are all on privately owned property.

Good morning everyone!
Had a great day yesterday. Went to Bangor to do some shopping and then went and got some shots of my friend's syrup making rig! Will be editing them at some pint today to post here.
Meghan-That set really made me chuckle!!
Maureen-LOVE that secound shot of your grandson! Such concentration on his face!!
Levina-WONDERFUL stork shots...we don't get those here!! Beautiful birds!
Penel-Those portraits are simply beautiful! What a precious pup!! There is a wonderful show of feeling in the interaction between the two of you! Hope everything is ok with Barley.
Stina-Have fun at the branding! Always look forward to seeing you shots!
Melody-I love old abandoned building as well, we'll drive by a few here and there and I will think to myself, "I wonder what it's like in there...are there any old fashioned things to see...history...." How about some shots of your sugar operation? I see you make your own syrup as well...I would love to see the set up you have! Please?? :-D LOL
Hope I didn't miss anyone!! I do enjoy coming here and seeing what everyone is up to!
Have a great day all and I hope to have some pics up tonight!!

Ah, I see. Yes, that would make entering rather awkward.

My syrup operation is pretty small. I tap two trees, five buckets in total. I boil it down on he kitchen stove using a big stock pot and smaller cook pots. When it's boiled down I put it in canning jars.

hello everyone. It's ever so cold here too - I think we're getting that snow tonight and tomorrow Levina. By the way, your stork shots, wow, I love them! I'm still trying to work out the back button focusing! a group of us are going on a Bird of Prey day on the 24th so I'd like to try it out then (might be better to practise beforehand i guess!).
Maureen - the 135mm on the 7D certainly looks like a successful combo to me, those are great shots. Your senior girl shots are lovely, I agree - they are very appropriate - some of the ones I've seen in the past have been way over the top. It's not really something that we do in the UK, we've only really started to do Senior Prom in the last few years.
Maple syrup - well I never. I had no idea at all that's how it is made!!! I guess I'd never even thought about it before, and I'm quite amazed. Looking forward to pics too.
Meghan the duck and goose shots are great.
I had a shoot here this morning, a mother and daughter, (It's Mother's Day here) and the daughter with her two dogs as well. Here's a few of my faves. (the dogs aren't very well socialised so I couldn't get too near them or they would growl and snap at me!!!) These are all b/w - they aren't *all* black and white but Lauren's preference is b/w so I have edited mostly as b/w.

Levina, I have alittle story about the 135 lens. I bought one about 8 years ago and loved it. Then a POTN friend asked if she could try it out & let me try out her 24-105mm lens which was a new release. We loved the lenses and then she asked if I would trade with her. I told her I would owe her money but she said no, it would be fine to just trade. Well, long story short, I pined for my 135 lens and hardly used the 24-105 (Skip now uses it solely on his 5DII), so that year for our anniversary, Skip bought my another 135 lens! I useit all the time, especially on my grandkids when they play outside or swim or when we go to the park. :)

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

Barb, I will be very interested in seeing those photos. When I lived in Vermont as a kid I remember a snow table and pouring cooked maple syrup on it until it hardened a bit, then eating it.

Thanks Maureen :D tis my 24 - 105 (I'm chuckling as I just read your post above!!) on the 7D (even more chuckling!), with two speedlights. One is camera left, in a 24" square softbox, the other is lighting the background just to the right of the backdrop, level with the subject. I use Cactus V5s to join them all together. There's also a big window camera left. I'm trying to persuade my husband it'd be a good idea to make the whole wall of my studio sliding glass doors

Oh my... I was just doing some repair work on some clothes, you know, a few loose hems and seams and all that, so I'm behind my sowing machine when all of a sudden I hear a soft 'pop,' followed by a distinct hissing sound. Next thing there's black smoke coming out of the thing! So my old, faithful sowing machine is dead. I bought it back in 1976, so I guess I can't complain after 37 years. :)

Those are great shots, Penel! The last one in particular is beautiful. Don't tell me, that because it's in colour, the client wouldn't want that one!!

The 24-105 lens thingy made me grin from ear to ear. Why is it that we sometimes don't like a lens? I once bought the 70-200 f/4L and returned it after a test run. It just didn't feel right. Then I bought the 300mm f/4L and from the first moment loved it.

But I really really like the images I see from the 135mm...

thank you for the nice comments about the pics, I haven't heard back from her yet although I put the one of both mother and daughter on fb, and she loved that.

I've been seriously considering the 300mm f/4L lately, I've even found someone selling a 2nd hand one in mint condition. How do you find it for wildlife Levina, is that the lens you use the most for your bird shots? with a t/c ? all the bird and wildlife shots I've taken lately with my 70-300mm have been at 300mm, so I guess that is kind of pointing me there. But I really really want a 5D3....

Nice shots from everyone!
Penel, you get great results from that 24-105.. It's my travel lens.
I rely in it for walk around on a 5DII .. I think it give great color and nice sharp images.

I love my 135L also, as it is fast and crisp..

Here are a couple more from Costa Rica..

That's a hard question to answer, Penel. It greatly depends on what you want to shoot. If it's large(r) birds that you can get a bit closer to, the 300mm is ideal. If it's small birds and/or birds you cannot get closer to, the 400mm f/5.6 is better. The 400mm is basically the best lens for birds and wildlife in that price range. Usually with those kinds of subjects you need all the reach you can get.

But it's a difficult decision. I struggled with it and bought the 300mm. A year later I also bought the 400mm. I use the 300mm for the larger city birds, waterfowl mostly and the 400mm for everything else (small birds, when I go out of the city etc.). I took the Stork shots with the 400mm as they are high up in their nest. But the Heron shots with the one-day-old chicks were shot with the 300mm as I knew I would be very close to them.

But, if I were forced to choose between the two I would keep the 400mm, thinking I could always back off, whereas with the 300mm it would not always be so easy to get closer. :)
