Joss Stone - San Francisco @ Oracle Open World

Oracle Open World is sponsoring concert events all week. Tuesday night was Joss Stone.

My 70-200 f2.8 lens is in for repair, so had to use the 70-200 f4. Given the generally low light of the event, I could have used that extra stop.

First "big name" act I've shot. From within the crowd, not the pit, but still fairly close.

How was her performance? She's gotta be one of the best vocalists of our time.

It was a great concert. She had an immediate positive reception from the audience, and throughout the other hundreds of pics I took, it looked like she genuinely enjoyed every moment of performing. Vocally she can sing live with as much of the same color and tone she does on her albums.

Kings of Leon and Pearl Jam tonight. Really wish I had my f2.8 here!!!

Can you rent a lens locally?

Good idea. Just checked a couple of places and wish I had thought of that before 5pm yesterday, the cutoff time for courier delivery to local pickup locations. Someone a bit more proficient would have thought of that earlier!!! (After all, I am here in San Fran for a *work* conference...been a bit distracted.)

Nonetheless, I'll continue to push ISO up and clean it up in post.

Lesson learned.

Tomorrow starts the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival in Golden Gate Park. I'll be there maybe I'll see you. I'll by using the 70-200 f2.8 (probably with the 1.4ext) and a 5D and 60D, hard to miss.

Hey, I was at OpenWorld as well... I can see the back of my head in one of your pictures. Great pic's of Joss Stone, I was afraid to move around as I had a decent spot and unless you were a vip you couldn't get access to the other side of the stage.

I only brought my 18-200 lens but managed to get some decent shots.. I think anyways.

Hrmm.. attaching it from a website.. I'm guess it doesn't automatically scale? First time posting.

Nice clean shot for 1/60 of a second. You've got arms of steel.
The 60D is OK on noise at ISO 1600 with a little post-processing. I find 3200 starts to get a bit soft when post-processed but it's better than missing the shot.

Did you get shots of Kings of Leon, Pearl Jam or any of the other bands that week? I did but haven't uploaded anywhere yet.

Hard to believe she sounds like a large black woman...
