Northern Lights mingling with the Big Dipper

Last Sunday night the aurora came out early. The full moon was out and amazingly bright, dulling the effect of the colours, which weren't all that impressive anyway.

Regardless, I needed to practice to be prepared for a future night.

From behind the cabin at 11:42 pm I caught the Big Dipper enticing the lights upwards ...

Full moon light is always great to work with.
I like the exposure and might only suggest for the future add more foreground or crop a off the top to emphasize your subject.

If it was only the northern lights in this one, for sure. BUT the Big Dipper (Ursa Major) is in the image as well, thus I left as much of the sky as possible to show the constellation.

Nice shot, thanks for sharing. I would love to be in the right place at the right time to someday see the northern lights, they look so amazing.

What a difference. Around here the light pollution is such that the dipper appears to be alone, all the lesser stars dulled. Thanks for sharing.
