Is the head an arca type? I see it listed under aluminum tripods, but I see it says carbon construction. Does anyone have any info on it, it looks like it would make a food second travel tripod.

Not Arca Swiss. This is a fairly new tripod...Dolica posted it here a few days ago but I imagine the post was deleted.

The Dolica website says:

aluminum alloy and carbon fiber legs

I am looking for a tripod 60" tall can fold less than 15" preferably carbon fiber, arca type head a big plus and can support 5d m3 and 70-200 is ii. For under $250

This looks like it could do it and I could replace the head and be under budget.

Any other thoughts?

Sounds like this tripod is almost everything you need...but that's not an Arca head. However, with your budget being $250, you could buy an extra Arca head with the money you're saving...

Just one, and I'm just curious, not criticizing your choice. Why such a cheap tripod for such an expensive camera and lens?

If somthing does the job why spend more? Show me a tripod that fits the needs the needs I listed for any price, and explain why it is better? There is a difference in buying quality and just wasting money.

By the way, I just picked up a Horus Bennu C-2540 TM with the LX-3 head...I believe the specs are as follows:

4 section carbon legs, the thickest being 25mm
about 1.5kg with the head
Arca-Swiss style head
45cm folded (folds backwards for travel), 155 cm at tallest setting, but I think that's legs only. I'm 5'10 and the tripod is taller than I need it to be.
Comes with padded bag, extra centre column, etc

I paid the equivalent of $165 for it, I think it can usually be had for around 200 bucks, search the net :)

I took mine to China for 5 days, lugged it around for 15-18 hours of walking a day, used it extensively at night...loved it!

The highlighted part is why I posed the question.

From my own experience, cheap tripods are the latter, whereas spending the extra money buys you quality that lasts.

For instance, here's one that is just barely out of your budget and 16" folded, plus it is CF, weighs less, extends taller, and has an arca-compatible head, and is rated for around the same load as the dolica.
http://www.ebay.com …ipods&hash=item20cab3cf0d (external link)

Keep in mind though, that your 60" height requirement will be with the centre column extended, making the tripod less stable.

That said, I personally wouldn't feel comfortable trusting my gear to either the Dolica or that particular Benro (I've played with that Benro, the legs were too spindly for my liking, and the head too small and not smooth with a heavy load). But then again I may use my tripod in a different manner to what you normally do. If you are just planning on using it in relatively secure situations, then any old tripod will be fine (although you will likely have to replace it every few years if it is a cheap one). I tend to hang my camera out over water or over rocks or near a cliff edge on my tripod and walk away for a while, so I need a tripod that I can trust.

And like I said anyway, I'm not criticizing your decision, I was just wondering why you decided on this particular tripod. It makes no difference to me what you buy.

The last ten inches of the advertised 60" height is with the center column fully extended. This is essentially a four-foot tripod. Using the center column extended in any tripod reduces the rigidity (and rigidity is the only reason to use a tripod). I suspect the apparently rather small diameter column in this tripod is not very sturdy when extended.

I have the carbon fiber Dolica, (not the fold up version however). In my opinion it's a good back-up tripod and for limited travel situations. There is a thred on this:
https://photography-on-the.net …=1144054&highlight=dolica

I think it's worth the cost, but it's NOT of the quality of the higher priced tripods.

Do you have any experience with that tripod? more specificaly the head, is there room for black rapid t1 fir the quick release plate?

Thanks for the replies, and rick I have read that article a few times before I bought my main tripod, I think I read it in another thread that you posted it in.

The only experience I have with it is testing with it at the store, and even there it wasn't great, so I wouldn't want to be using it in any sort of challenging environment. The fault is not with the brand per se, its with the fact that a tripod in this category is going to be designed with less than sturdy components to keep the weight, size, and cost down. I do not know if the BR t1 fits there, I imagine it should from looking at the pictures, but I do not use a BR strap. My friend uses a BR strap, but he ended up getting the Luma membrane connector instead of the BR t1 for use with a tripod plate.

My friend was recently out to buy a tripod, he only had experience with a cheap free aluminium set of legs which came with his camera. At first he was considering the benro I linked above, but I made him play around with a 2 series and convinced him to spend the extra money. He now tells me he's glad I changed his mind.
This is the specific tripod h went with:
