This is not real carbon fiber it's just vinyl, but aesthetics wise it gets the job done so it's great.

I've covered my phone in it before, it's awesome. And cheap.

Actually I he 3M is a film rather than a thick vinyl wrap. You can give them a call and 3M will send you a sample pack for free

Did you do this to your Civic Si too? :)

John Photography wrote in post #15076698 (external link)
no, did it to my Bentley! :)

Well played, JP. Well played. Looks like a good way to square away a scuffed up lens hood if you wanted.

WOW $30 is about $28 to much! If it is vinyl that is. You can get a whole roll of it for about $10 and it is very easy to apply. But I used to do a lot of automotive graphics so I may be biased. I have thought about doing it but never did. The CF wrap with the studio logo on each side is what I was going to do .

Of course, if you buy the big Nikon glass, you get a real-deal carbon fiber hood:

I believe the large Canon Ls are the same. Theyre just painted white.

I actually love this, I've been wanting to find out how to do it for a while and my search tonight found this thread.

Can you tell me it can be removed again I.e. if I ever sell the particular hood on?

yes, in fact a few of them was already wrapped and my new guy removed the old wrap and rewrapped it.

30 dollar for a single hood? Did you buy a new hood for it?

I did it for just 2 dollar. But I wrapped the original hoods, a long time ago.

it's the labor and workmanship that goes into the wrapping of the hoods....properly lining it up.

it's not vinyl, it's 3M di-noc film. and a whole roll of it is a lot more than $10. if you use to do a lot of automotive graphics, you'd know this.

What's the difference? A bit OT, but I'm looking for some vinyl (or at least I thought it was vinyl that would be best) for doing some graphics that will wrap over the surfaces of a Thule luggage box. I'm looking for stuff that will be durable, clean wrapping, not leave any residue (or easily removable residue), and the cheaper the better. Any suggestions?

Looks legit, OP.
Anybody know how difficult is it to remove?

this 3M di-noc is meant car exteriors and is very durable. not sure how big your Thule luggage box is, but this should do the job.

di-noc was not even conceived of when I was an automotive painter. Everything was vinyl. Have not kept up with it since I stopped painting.

And your right it is more expensive. 4 hoods worth is $22. And at that price I just may have to get some!
