This was taken this evening, no PP, and it's the first time I saw what I wanted to capture in my head and got exactly that. I only got this one shot before my camera died.

C&C is more than welcome! Will be posting more from this evening as well for critique, after I get a chance to look at them in PS.

Thanks for looking!

Hi. I like the colors and silhouette but would crop a lot of the black shadow at the bottom and possibly crop out that ramdom bit of grass at the top.

Honestly no, I don't like it as is. If you could have shot an HDR so that the sun is not so bright and you had some detail in the shadows I think it would make a wall-hanger. Maybe even a graduated ND would have worked.

I look forward to seeing some PP tweaks, maybe boosting some detail in the shadows. I like the idea... its just not quite there yet for me.

The sun hits one square in the eyes. I see the concept, but agree with John.

I like it. I would crop out some of the lower portion (maybe a 4x5 ratio). I would not do HDR on this either. You could deal with the sun on its own with Lightroom or PhotoShop.

While I like what HDR can do for some photos I don't think I would like it with this one. I think I may go back this evening and re-shoot and get some different compositions.

I'll play with it a little, and I do agree about the crop. Lots of black at the bottom. I've just never been this excited about a SOOC shot before!!

And I would rather clone out the random big bit of grass on the top than crop it out, anyone agree or am I on my own on that one? lol

Thanks for the input guys!

I like the shot just the way it is. I don't even mind the "extra" black at the bottom. For me, I wouldn't change a thing.

Ok so, a little of everyone's suggestions.

Got rid of the piece of grass at the top, more detail in the bottom, and cropped. I have to work around my two daughters' schedules (7 mos and 19 mos... hardly any time for myself!) so this was just a quick edit while making dinner.

I liked the original and I love the edit. Very nice! As you can we from your own edit, clone vs. crop in this case clone was the better choice. The edit also has more balance with a smaller black portion on the bottom, although had I not seen the edit, I wouldn't have an issue with the original in that regard.

Very nice pic, and a nice first edit. What about turning up the saturation just a smidge? I think this would brighten the blue in the sky.

Russ.... played with it a little more and made the blue a little blue-r... but in the process added a little greenish tinge I think. As it stands I'm going with the edit before this one.
