I have a t2i and looking for a flash. I will not use it much so I don't want to spend ~$300 if possible.

I was looking at Yongnuo YN-468II and it seems that the only things its missing compared to Canon 430ex II is HSS but its only $90!

Any thoughts? how is the power compared to 430ex? is there something that I am not seeing that really makes the 430ex worth it for me?

Are there other options in the same ~$100 price range that would be better?
Or in general any recommendation?
Any people have used Yongnuo YN-468II and can give me feedback?

I bought the Yongnuo YN560, and it does fine with me. I too do not use a flash much. Build quality is certainly not the same as the Canon models. If I relied on a flash, I would have spent the extra money. But do nearlly all natural light shots, so it works for me.

Canon 6D & 7D. Panasonic GX85 and a number of ever changing lenses.

I've been using the Yongnuo YN-465 and YN460 flashes for over three years, the ETTL works great and they are inexpensive. However if you need HSS the Canon might make it worth it but I understand the latest Yongnuo YN568ex has HSS - high speed sync

There are many threads about Yongnuo in the Small Flash and Studio Lighting forum, as opposed to the lens forum.

I'd recommend the Metz 48 AF-1 or 50 AF-1 over both.

Those units will cost slightly more than a Yongnuo yn-468II but they are much better flashes. I've owned the yn-468 and yn-468II, btw. Those are good flashes but neither compare to the build quality of either Metz nor the power output. The actual yn-468 power output is quite a bit less than advertised. Go HERE (external link) for flash comparisons.

*The Metz is quite a bit more powerful

*The Metz's auto zoom feature is much faster than the Yongnuo's and is a factor when trying to get a quick picture. I found myself having to wait a split second for the Yongnuo flashes to zoom in getting some pics.

*The Metz has ettl slave ability. That is an excellent feature which allows future expansion of your flash creativity.

*The Metz has HSS as you desire.

etc, etc.

I wouldn't opt for the Yongnuo yn-468 over the Canon 430ex but I would choose the Metz 48 af-1 or the 50 af-1 over both of those units. I own the 48 af-1 and it has always performed flawlessly.

Good luck

A friend gave me as a gift an inexpensive Sunpak flask a few years ago. She bought it on sale at Best Buy for $49. No comparison with a Canon flash, of course, but it works, and has suited my very limited needs. If you plan to use it rarely, as I do, you may want to look at an option like this.

the Sunpak flashes are also at Walmart, it looks decent for a basic ETTL $49 flash
