very cool shot, but a little too dark....and i'd like to see some more contrast. otherwise, very original and provocative.

I was quite taken by this image. It's difficult to comment on a shot like this as it is quite seperate from conventional photography and has an abstract quality. Having said that, there is a sense of something missing from the shot (for me). I don't mean another component but just needing something. I wonder what would happen if :
The subject were looking the other way
There was less dark or a much tighter crop. So crop the dark area above or below or both
The small highlight wasn't so bright under the subjects nose
If a different object had been used or even a different glass... why the glass?

Those are just some thoughts. It's a nice image and well produced. Thanks for posting.

Martin

Thank you for the comments, Martcol what would you suggest instead of the glass?

It's such a job to say really Michaelmjc, The glass is an ovious part of your theme and intention for "Blue Drinker" and the title and theme to me evoke images of lonely male, dumped by girl (partner), lost all and now in debt... but the overall image is too illustrative to achieve that. The good thing about the glass is that it is transparent so it adds interest with the lighting effect. I wondered about using a different glass or maybe a bottle - that would stay in the theme. Maybe something with a stark profile like a hair brush or comb but "Blue Hairbrusher" fails on the title thing!

I don't really know is the shorter answer to the question but I guess that's clear by now! I still think it's a good image but perhaps a bit cliched... That's far too critical a word but I can't think of another and don't want to judge. Partly, I'm thinking out loud. Maybe a hair brush would add a more sureal twist and the title could be "brush with blue!" Who knows. This is clearly your image so, who am I to say? I have enjoyed looking at it and both the theme and technique made me think.

Many thanks

Martin

Crop a tenth away from the bottom: I think the shot then has more impact.
