I am looking to get a rig soon for my automotive photography, but don't have big money to spend on a WA lens like the 17-40L, but I need something wider than the 24-105L I have now. What are the cheapest but best options for WA lenses for a FF body?

Is it just me or is the 17-40L not a cheap UWA option.... Perhaps I spend too much.

UWA for a FF? Cheap, wide and good - pick two.

The Samy mentioned above is probably closest to meeting the criteria, but it's fully manual and needs correction for your use.

Indeed, the 17-40 and the Sigma 12-24 II are probubly the cheapest options...

Might be able to get an older 12-24 for cheap

-edit- Also, Tony perhaps if you spent a little less on the liquor budget this month you could afford a 17-40, Just saying man... All that scotch is expensive!

That said you're Tony flipping Stark, You have an arc reactor in your chest, Cant you just make a lens out of scrap or something?

If you're after a prime, you could look for a vintage Vivitar 17/3.5 with either OM, Pentax K or Nikon F mount. These were made by Cosina in the early 80's, they're pretty good and sell for around $200 on fleabay. Add a bit for a decent adapter and you'll be ready to roll. Of course, it's manual focus, manual aperture and made of metal.

You have to be fair though, the image quality is reasonable but it's not a 17 TS-E.

Another option would be an OM 21/3.5 but this tends to run around $500.

Several cameras and more glass than I will admit to.

On the used market there are some choices depending how wide you want to go. If 20mm is enough, the EF 20mm f/2.8 USM can sometimes be had fairly cheaply and works decently. A used EF 20-35mm f/3.5-4.5 USM is even less money for a wide lens with fast autofocus. Both of these are supported in DPP for lens corrections which lifts their performance quite a bit.

The above mentioned Sigma 15-30mm f/3.5-4.5 EX DG is a pretty good lens with good sharpness but it doesn't take front filters. I like mine and 15mm is really wide although it does show a bit of barrel distortion which may not bother you for automotive photography. I keep sending in requests to DxO to add this lens to their Optics Pro software for full automatic corrections.

I have a Tokina 19-35. It is about $175 on E-bay right now. I got it for nothing with an Elan 7NE. Nice lens. Well respected. As long as it still works, I'll never pay for a 17-40.

The Tokina 17 3.5 AT-X Pro is a very good lens and go for around $250.

By the way, the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 will work on the 5D at 15-16mm but I guess the corners will be soft. Just in case you have access to a 11-16mm!

Canon 6D | S35mm f1.4 | 135mm f2 The rest: T3i, 20D, 15mm f2.8, 15-85mm, 24mm f2.8, 50mm f1.8, 85mm f1.8, 90mm f2.8 macro, 55-250mm.
So long and thanks for all the fish

Might want to wait for another Canon refurb 20% off sale (the next big sale is scheduled for Black Friday). I got a 17-40L refurb from the sale last week. After 3% cashback it was ~$570 shipped.

The other option is a $400 Samyang 14mm, which is sharper than the 17-40 (or 16-35 for that matter) and is easy to focus with live view. There's a LR profile that takes care of the mustache-type distortion too.
