This thread is about how often you calibrate the monitor you use for photo editing with an external device from any company (Sypder, ColorMunki...etc.). The brand and model does not matter. It does not matter if it is a laptop screen, desktop CRT, LCD, or 60" plasma unit.

  1. Once a week
  2. Once a month
  3. Couple of times a year
  4. You calibrate monitors?

I did it for the first time on my current monitor. It really made a difference in the balance between blue and red in sunsets.

Each time my software badgers me into it. Thats maybe once a month (ish). I don't believe it needs doing so often but if I try to ignore the reminder, it refuses to go away.

Every two weeks minimum. AND/OR just before any big job.

That is not calibrating, That is compensating, and is not a recommended practice. Its a great selling point. But not an actually useful item.

I do it once or twice a month. I have the reminder set to kick in after a week, but I tend to ignore that and just close it along with the other important notifications that come on when I boot my main desktop. (Which reminds me, I really should look into what is up with that reactor control warning. I assume one of the other guys on the project is actually dealing with it.)

Generally will remember to do it just before dealing with shots after a big game or something, but for the most part it isn't super critical. Most of my work is still currently viewed on random computer screens, so calibration is kind of moot. Mostly I've been trying to get into the habit of it, and hopefully will do some larger prints this fall.

When the auto notification starts popping up, or before I send off something to print (other than family photos which just go to Costco or Sam's Club  )

roughly every 4 weeks, once a month, or until I get fed up with ColoMunki's pop up warning. I seriously pops up like every 25min it seems like. And I have two display one warning/reminder for each monitor.
