Big career opportunity for me out there. Have 3 days of interviews set up, with most of the afternoons free. Interested in places to shoot the sunset within an hour of town.

Also, If I move out there, what are some of the best spots within a few hours? Anything accessible in the winter? :)

Any other POTN people out that way?

That's tough...perhaps Boulder Flatirons....Rocky Mountain NP isn't that far away, but then to get to the better places there are 30 minute + hikes. I guess it depends on what you would want for a foreground. Lots is accessible in the winter. I go up to RMNP in the winter without issues. You just can't drive over trail ridge road then. Rock Cut in RMNP is a nice sunset place. I find I'm out a lot more for sunrise on this side of the mountains. Curious where you're interviewing if you don't mind me asking?

Being from Loveland, CO I can tell you that living in Northern Colorado is a photographers paradise. There are countless places within an hours drive from Fort Collins, including Rocky Mountain National Park (I am up there at least 3 times a month since I live 30 minutes from there).

For sunset/sunrise shots right in Fort Collins, you can to up to Horsetooth Reservoir, or out to one of the local lakes. Bobcat Ridge Nature area has some great trails and a chance to photograph elk and deer (and bobcats ;))

If you are active, you can't beat Northern Colorado for the amount of outdoor activity available. Huge amounts of trails are in the area with many offering great photo opportunities.

Welcome!

As mentioned by Numenorean & Colorado CJ, there are tons of opportunities for photography!

Poudre Canyon, Rocky Mountain National Park, countless city/county parks (boulder mountain parks are pretty cool), Indian Peak Wilderness Area is a bit further away, but lots of neat hikes.

Let us know when you're going to be in town and maybe we can do a meet-up. :)

Head out east past Greeley on hwy 14 (I think) toward Stirling. The sandhill country can be very austere and strikingly beautiful.

Yup, Highway 14...but that doesn't really get close to Greeley. Pawnee Grasslands and the Buttes are out there.

Yeah, Pawnee Buttes are nice in the evening. And if you are a shooter of a different sort, a good place for target practice (not in the buttes themselves, but in the same general area)

Only problem with the Buttes now is they put all those dang wind power generators up in the background.

Oops, you're right; 14 is direct from Ft Collins to Stirling. Been awhile since I was out that way...
