I'm selling my camera over different forums and I requested Paypal Gift as payment. However, a person interested asked if we could do an invoice instead.

I'm new to using Paypal, so what are the risks as a seller and buyer using either method?

The buyer has no protection when purchasing via Paypal Gift. Typically you would need outstanding feedback and/or personally know the person in order for them to send payment via Paypal Gift.
Of course there are no fees for you if they send pament via Paypal Gift.

paypal invoice is fine and recommended, but note when you send the invoice you have to pay the fees.

so if you don't want to pay them add the extra cost to the final price.
the buyer can also send you the money directly and chose whether they want to pay the fee or the seller.

How much are the fees, typically?

The fee is 2.9% plus a $0.30 fee per transaction.

Thanks. That's not too bad. I've included most of the shipping already so a little out of my pocket isn't too bad.
