I am a part time working photographer, doing location portrait, sports, and architecture (both stills and video). I need to take about $2000 out of my kit to handle an unexpected bill, but still be able to cover these jobs. I need a good set of coverage from wide to telephoto. I don't believe I need to be full frame. I am willing to sell and rebuy equipment -- the goal is to walk away with a kit that covers everything. Plus the 2 grand, of course.

Anyway, here is what I have:

5D Mark II with grip
7D
Rebel XTI

16-35mm 2.8L
24-105mm L
70-200mm 2.8 IS L
85 1.8 L
1.4x teleconverter

600 EX-RT (x2)
430 EX
ST-E3-RX
Nikon SB-26 (x2)

Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your help.

I have a 5d + 7D, with a 24-70 and a 70-200 (both 2.8 non-IS), a 1.4x Tele (which I use often as I shoot a lot of motorsports), and a 580ex2 for fill. I've never felt under-equipped.

I agree that you could ditch the 24-105, a few of your flashes, and the Rebel. Unless you shoot video, you could probably also move to a 5D1 from the 5d2 if you still need full frame but don't need some of the minor feature upgrades that the 5d2 offers. I can't imagine a single situation where you would need 6 flashes all at once. For architecture, you can always put the camera on a tripod and build the image in layers with manual pops of the flash.

Cool ideas. Thank you. I definitely need to hold on to the video, as that's pretty much what pays the bills.

Credit card or some other avenue of finance would probably be easier than selling and re-buying. You never know what you're going to get when you buy second hand equipment.

Only you know what you use. Sell the bits you can do without.
