Have a roughly $1000 budget, going to spend it today and then probably won't add camera equipment for a while. My current equipment is a 60D, 50mm 1.8, 18-55 IS, 70-300 IS.

I mostly shoot people with the occasional landscape/wildlife/sports thrown in (but vastly infrequent to shooting people). Also planning/ hoping on going FF in about a year.

I definitely appreciate all opinions and help, but I am ONLY considering 1 of the following 3. So no mix/match, substitute other lenses, used, etc. Thanks!

1. 17-55mm

2. 15-85, 430 ex ii

3. 430 ex ii, 35mm f/2, 85mm 1.8

I am leaning towards (3), but I'd appreciate thoughts! Thanks!

If you don't have a speedlite, it should be tops on the list IMO. Given that, a standard zoom is most people's most used lens so I would rather have a good one there than some prime covering the standard zoom range and having to rely on the 18-55 for the rest. So of your options I like #2 best, but I would personally change the 15-85 for the Sigma 17-50/2.8, but you didn't want to hear about other options.

Canon 7D/350D, Σ17-50/2.8 OS, 18-55IS, 24-105/4 L IS, Σ30/1.4 EX, 50/1.8, C50/1.4, 55-250IS, 60/2.8, 70-200/4 L IS, 85/1.8, 100/2.8 IS L, 135/2 L 580EX II, 430EX II * 2, 270EX II.

I believe if I had the gear you already own and my only purchasing choices were the three you listed, I'd go with #3.

Based on your existing gear, preference for portrait shots and the three options listed, I would go with option 3. If you went with option 1 you could sell the 18-55 and add something else.

For most shooters, my suggestion is the camera and lens followed by a flash. Then more lenses. So I'm with the any option that has a flash. I would rather have the two lenses in option 3 than the others given your current set-up. So I'm with the others in option 3.

Thanks for Reading & Good Luck - Jim

I went with option 3 myself, for my 60D. I am not so fond of flash, but I do make use of it when I need to.
I like to use the 35f2 and 85f1.8 for people photos and events. Another possibility for people photos is the 24-105L. It is great outside for events and portraits.
For natural light photos indoors at night, the 35f2 will work great. The longer 85f1.8 is a fine lens.
I recommend trying one addition to your kit at a time. This may give you time to learn the lens or flash, and provide more buying pleasure over a longer time frame.

#3 although I found the 85 kind of long on the 60D. On a full frame though, WOW, phenomenal.

If you're going full frame in a year, #3 without a doubt.
I'd personally substitute the 35mm f/2 for a 28mm f/1.8 (I own both).
