busbyea Not your usual subject mattter Gary. But I had very lttle luck myself yesterday.
#1 Very nicely composed. Great texture, and lighting.
Something "Alien" about # 2.
Thanks Ted .....I zeroed in on that Alien aspect of the post as that is what caught my eye so I did the same here. It was only on second view that I took in the whole image.
Michaelmjc I love it, very sharp. Great shot.
Thanks Michael.......I wasn't sure at first but its growing on me
SRPhotographic I like the first one more than the second. It has wonderful composition as well as textures. You showed the rustic barbed-wire and the wonderful textures of the wood. Maybe closing the aperture by a stop could have brought in the texture of the grass behind the post a little more. That could either help the photo or detract from it, you'd have to experiment. But very good job overall, I love photos with good textures. Hope my comments were helpful!

I think I tend to eliminate or shroud the background in most of my shots. This is partly on purpose and is also because the lens I was using was on the camera to shoot birds (at close range mind you). I took advantage of the bright light to lower my ISO ( 100 and 200) and pump up my shutter speed ( hand holding in the cold). The F4 max aperture of the 200mm and 1.4X combo makes it almost automatic to smooth out the background even at F 6.3 ( 2 other shots were at F5.6 and F7.1). Thanks for looking and for the comment which is very helpful. The next time I am shooting similar I will take a little more time to work more seriously with the DOF and see what the results are. Thanks again!
