Hey guys,
I'm looking to pick up a printer on friday and was wondering if anyone had an oppinion between the canon i9900 and hp's new(er) photosmart 8750. From personal experience i know the i9900 is a great printer, and now at a great price, but i also have a $100 off hp coupon putting the 8750 at about the same price, does anyone have one of these and have anything to say about it, any compairisons between the two? I know a lot of people will want to suggest espon so u may if you wish (id be interested to know the differences there too) but these two printers are what are in my budget and what i would like right now.

Thanks

Billy

Never had an epson, and don't care to. However, I'm in love with my i9900. I've seen the HP work, and it's slower and the pictures don't pop like they seem to with the i9900. Stick with Canon (or epson if they're that much better [doubtful])..they know what they're doing.

I have a i9900, I don't have a HP.

I like my i9900.

Highly recommend you look at ink costs between the two. Unless the HP has individual ink tanks, do take that Canon advantage into account. Certain colors always run out at different rates.

And although it is my understanding HP has gotten a lot better, the Canon will still produce a better quality print, faster and quieter from everything I have read or seen.

One note, if you can wait until end of Feb then I recommend waiting for PMA as I am hoping Canon will announce the replacement to the i9900 then. If not then I lean toward the Canon, but again check ink prices out as they are not that far apart in quality.

I've had 3 different HP Printers, I forgot the models but I know one was $199 when it came out, the other was $399 and I got the last one which I know was a 8150.

Junk. Maybe HP is latin for garbage? On paper they look great, lots of nice features. But in life, they are super slow to print. Even the 8150 took around one and a half minutes to print a 4X6! I don't know why they do it but when you look at the photos on an angle it looks like they are printed in layers, like the back ground first, then the subject over that and you see them overlaping. All my HP's did that and I have NO clue as to WHY?The prints also smell soooo bad I get the worst headace after 2 prints, and the smell takes about 4-6 weeks to go away. HP really stinks!

I now have 2 Canon iP5000's which are dirt cheap (Staples, $49) and print good enough for now. In fact they print twice as good as my $399 HP!

I've seen Epson prints in life and they also look really nice. I'd say the higher end Canon and Epson's are unbeatible and so close in performance that you need to demo them just to see which one you like better in terms of function. I've not had one problem with any Canon so far and my mom has an Epson that has a mind of it's own some times, but still a very nice printer.

Nick

Billy,
I have the i9900 and I love it. I just stock up on the ink cartridges (Amazon has good prices). I wish I could give you a comparison but this is just my opinion on one printer! Extremely quiet and Very quick.

well the thing is, first a new printer model will cost a lot more than the i9900 currently does, and second, id like to get it now because i just got back from costa rica with 1400 pics, theres a good 100 id like to print, and just the cost of getting those printed somewhere will pay for the printer lol. Also, some of my money is a $100 gift card that expires february

Good decision, Billy. Better stick with i9900. An excellent photo printer that can handle text or graphics...

I was also thinking of getting the Canon i9900. I have the HP the new model that just came out. The HP 8250 that prints a 4x6 in less than a few seconds. It's pretty good but as Nick, said in his post about the HP having this looked about them when you look at them in a angle.

I notice that also with the HP photo smart 8250. But I love the ink use of it. I have printed many prints and just now having to just replace the yellow all the others are still full. So thats kind of what I wanted to know is the Canon
i9900 pretty good on ink?

I guess I could say in total I have printed close to 20- 8x10's and 25 wedding invitation for a friend. And 40- 4x6 and lots of test shots. I just couldn't believe the ink I was like Wow. So will the Canon i9900 give me good results as far as the ink cost?

Oh... and also wanted the Canon for the print size. The 13x19 prints you can do. And I know it will do wonderful prints. But my main reason is for the big size printing.

Since the i9900 uses individual ink tanks it will vary a bit.
I find that I can get about 40 borderless 8x10's before I have to replace the first cartridge (reds and greens last a lot longer). After about 80 prints and I have replaced all but red and green. Typically Photo-Magenta and Photo-Cyan go fastest followed by black then yellow (based on my experience).

Figure $10-13 per cartridge. HP's costs if I have the right cartridges seem to varry more in price at $8-15 per cartridge. Also you can get a lot more prints if not doing borderless printing. I could find no direct comparison, but some general comparisons indicate that overall Canon's ink costs per print are cheaper then HP's ink costs per print. However, the i9900 has two additional inks which add to the costs, so overall costs will probably be closer to the same.

And a quick note of trivia: The larger prints are cheaper per square inch of print

Thanks Longwatcher, for the info. I do think Canon will be the best way to go. Even though I don't get the same ink use I will know I will get the very best printing. So that will be a big + for me. I don't mind spending a little more for ink if I'm getting good picture Quality. :-)

Epson blows fat ..... Ive bad way too many of their printers, and many of them die after mild use... Most of the time its some funky event of head jamming, or some major malfunction that makes it a paper weight.

I hear good about canon.. But i hate owned a printer now...

For the price costco charges, I dont see why anyone would want to own a $500 unit, maintain it, + pay for supplies...

Costco even gives you ICC Printer profiles to match with your Monitor color calibration system for FREE!

I get pro lab prints for pennys. The canon does look tempting, but with my past experience with InkJets in general... i say NO!

I have the i9900 as well and think it is a great printer. The prints are lab quality (IMO) and it is very fast. A+ printer for me. I don't really keep track of the number of prints per ink cart, but like the other poster said the Photo-Magenta and Photo-Cyan go the fastest, so I try and keep a couple around. If you don't want to order online, I buy my ink at Staples. If you buy two at a time they are $11 each and if you bring in the empty ones they give you $3 off each, bringing them down to $8 each. Not to bad of a deal. I always use Canon ink, and have had very good luck with Canon, Ilford, and RedRiver paper. I also used the Staples 13x19 once (mostly because I wanted to see it do a borderless 13x19) and it truned out very nice.

Good luck~
