I've been looking on ebay and see that you can get very good deals on used Canon 420EX flashes. Another brand that I don't seem to read much about is Metz; particularly the 44AF. Should I spring for a Metz new or try to find a bargain on Ebay with the 420EX? I am just starting and flash photography has always well-looked like flash photography.

I have both and although the 550 is an overall much nicer flash, the Sigma is very capable and has been used in many portraits sessions and 2 weddings. My Sigma is currently in for warranty work though. The pin that drops to connect the flash to the camera got stuck in the down position. I still recommend it, if the 550 is too expensive though. -daniel

The HV version is supposed to be safe, or under 12 volts. I checked it with an oscillograph and it's under 6. National Sarcasm Society. Like we need your support.
