I've been intrigued with the idea of HDR photos. I was going to get some software to play with the concept but then my son brought over his T4i with a built in HDR function making me wonder which HDR method would be better. I was wondering if anyone would like to comment on their luck with HDR, either in the T4i or with software? Anybody use both methods? Thanks.

Do you have photoshop CS2 or newer? It has built in Merge to HDR function. I've never used an in-camera HDR, but from my experience with all the settings, I would want to merge manually on my large monitor screen for maximum control.

You can always download a trial of Photohop if you don't have it, it's free for 30 days... And can play with its HDR function and compare it to the results of the in-camera HDR using the same images. Actually that sounds like a fun test to do :)

Here is an example of a 2 exposure HDR using photoshop and about 20 minutes of fiddling. I was going for realistic and not over the top.

Dedicated software will give you much more control and you won't be limited to three exposures.
