I can't help but think that if I wait till the Samyang is released to buy a tilt-shift, that it won't be up to snuff and I will end up buying the Canon anyway and will have wasted months playing the waiting game. I also can't help but think if I buy the Canon now and the Samyang turns out to be almost as good for half the price, I will regret having bought the Canon. Certainly it can't be possible that the Samyang is equal to or better than the Canon, so I'm leaning towards just getting the Canon and being done with it... Suggestions?

Unless you really need a TS lens now, I'd say you can wait until the Samyang comes out. But the exact time is unknown, so maybe you can buy the Canon used and sell it if the Samyang is indeed better than the Canon.

My suggestion would be to rent the Canon TS now and go have some fun. Maybe that will hold you over until the Samyang lens hits the market and reviews are available (then you can decide).

How much?

Edit : Just found this : http://www.ukdigital.co.uk …ilt-shift-lens-canon.html (external link)
To compare, they sell the 35mm for 360 pounds and B&H sells the same lens for $500. (500/360)x1000=$1400. That's expensive :(

Make sure to read the fine print. It's only a pre-order and the price and/or release date are anything but firm.
I've been following the Samyang lens since I first heard of it. There were some posts from people that tried it at Photokina and said it seemed like a good lens. Not many details yet though :(

Edit: I kinda misquoted, it was meant as a response to the ukdigital link. If somebody actually sells it already please feel free to share. Also, prices in the UK seem to be much higher in general, so even if it would be £1000 its very well possible it could be US $1200 or less even.

It would seem highly unlikely to me that the Samyang T-S 24mm F/3.5 could come close or actually match the canon 24 for half the price. Especially when one considers that the canon 24 is considered to be the sharpest lens out of all the lenses on the block. Then again, miracles do happen every once in a blue moon.

My understanding is the Samyang 14mm is just as good as Canon's for a sweet savings of over $1000.

I guess it depends on what you mean by 'just as good', but it seems to certainly be a lot sharper. Many of Samyang's other lenses are very good too. I wouldn't be shocked if it was close to the Canon for 1/2 price, but still, considering Nikon doesn't have a top notch 24mm TS and no 17mm TS, I would also not be surprised if Canon knows something about making these lenses that others do not.

Still, IMO it is a very, very welcome addition to the TS market. Personally I think the benefits of a TS are much greater than just sharpness, but it has to have well controlled distortion and CA becasue correcting for these with shift is not something software can do right now.

In short, I don't think this lens needs to be able to compare to the Canon in sharpness to be a really viable alternative.

I have just purchased Samyang 14mm in Dubai for US$ 340, brand new with i year warranty! Canon equivalent is I believe US$2300...... That is some price difference ......

You are correct!.... This is all on pre-order in UK.... I have just spoken with a main dealer in Dubai and he confirms that no definite launch date is known and also no price is known either..

Regarding the price, in Europe it has been announced less than 1000€ (read this month in "Photo" magazine)
