Very nice shot, Lee but that's a Ruby-throated Hummingbird....not a Red-tailed Hawk. :D

Nice example. In my experience with the 7D, it's really the blue channel that has the most issues with noise. It's a decent camera but I have found myself spending much less time editing images using other cameras.

Too bad the autofocus caught the metal rod and not the bird. You should have used the focus ring to tweak the focus slightly so it would be on the hummingbird.

I don't need any convincing what the 7D can do. I could show you my ISO 12800 shots if you like? :)

Nice Hummer btw.

I had the same reaction. And I agree it is a very nice shot. Thank you for sharing.

Certainly, I haven't needed to try it with birds yet but here's an indoor shot under tungsten light (no flash) ISO 12800 using a 300mm f/4 lens!

Oh, and yes, I knew Ruby-throated Hummingbird, I forgot the U on the end of the 4 digit code. Sorry about that.
