I just realized i never used any of the software that came with my xt. I have a alot of raw pics i need to convert. Is it easy to use? I had searched the site for free raw plugins for my ps 7 or elements 2.0 but couldn't find anything.

Digital Photo Professional is Canon's RAW converter (I think the XT comes with it?). It doesn't have as many bells & whistles as some others, but I think it's an excellent application for someone just venturing into the RAW world.

You may also want to try Raw Shooter Essentials from pixmantec.com. It's a great piece of software, and it's free.

Ok i installed that raw shooters essentials and it worked. But i have no idea on how to save the pic, resize it. Everytime i tried to access the help or instructions ps cs2 would open up and ask me for my serial #. So i had to close that, have no access to instructions. Then i goto look at another pic accidentally hit some lil blue bar and now its saying no raw files to be found. But they are on my card in the camera.

Im going f'in nuts right now im so stressed about this. Are they're any simple plugins & free plugins for photoshop 7?

Hi, Rawshooter is very easy to use and you will not find anything better for FREE on the net for converting Raw files. (My Opinion) I use it for Canon 350D & 20D files
Try this to download the instructions for it's use, it is the third ebook on the page under essentials 2005. Just save it to your HD.

Many Thanks,
Russell.

Photostudio is an image editing program, not a RAW converter.

EOS Viewer Utility can be used to view, edit and convert your RAW (.cr2) images. Or you can download Digital Photo Professional from Canon's download library.

RSE is an awesome program, but one thing that's nice about DPP is that it shows you ALL the camera settings used for the shot, including things like EC, FEC, metering mode, flash, etc. RSE will only give you shutter, aperture, ISO and lens info. When you're trying to figure out why an image looks a certain way, the extra info can be a tremendous learning tool.

HI,
I recently started shooting RAW. I downloaded the Raw Shooter's Essentials and have been loving it. I'm not the most computer driven person and have found this program to be quite simple. I'm using Photoshop 7 and have no problems so far. RSE saves all the converted files into a folder called "Converted" and they are Tiff's and I convert them to JPEG in PS & when I am done editing. Hopefully you will have more luck tomorrow when your mind is fresh. If I can figure it out, I think almost anyone can do it.

ok this may sound like the dumbest question, but do i save them or does the program manually save them? Cuz i tried again to open the pics and rse said there were no raw files found. But the pics are still on the memory card when i open them in the camera.

Download the files to your harddrive first, either with the camera's USB cable and the Canon software, or with a card reader.

Then use RSE to open, view, edit, and convert.
Refer to the pdf manual that comes with RSE to learn how to convert and save.
