I'm debating this lens. What do you users think and what pictures do you have to show off?

x2. The convenience factor it had on my 5DII was enough for me to buy it. The IQ is EXCELLENT: waaay worth its price tag.

If I'm not going to a planned shoot, I use the 40mm everywhere I go now.

I love the little 40mm pancake lens and I'm so glad Canon added it to their system. I've posted some of my photos made with the lens here:

A cracking little lens , I took it to Thailand recently and set my 1dmk4 to auto iso - F8 - 125th sec and focus and shoot .

Also good wide open .

I would recommend it .

This shot was at the above settings ... just so easy

I can't say enough good things about this lens.

For it's IQ and price, it is easily the best $199 you can spend.

Cheap & cheerful - surprisingly good images considering the size and price. If it did not vignette on my 5D2 though I would be a happy chappy. It does not do so on my 40D though.

I really enjoy the 40/2.8. I'm surprised by the image quality from such an affordable lens. Do I wish it was faster? Yes, but then it wouldn't be $199.

I just posted these in the official thread here:

I got the 40mm STM for the wife's 650D primarily for shooting video but I've used it a couple of times on my 5D3 and it's terrific. Well worth the £180 I paid for it and I'll probably end up using it more than my 35 f2 in the end, even though my 35 is very good on both my 5D3 and 7D.

The Digital Picture has ISO Crops of the 40mm STM...compare it to the 24-70L (verson 1) at 40mm and f/2.8. I think you'll be surprised how close they are. :)

To be honest the vignetting is very easy to fix in post, even in DPP you just adjust the peripheral illumination, I adjust it to 100 and it is completely gone, so even though I have a whinge about it it's not that much of a big deal. It is a pretty good length for just walking around with and gives surprisingly good IQ for such a small cheap lens. The best part is it is very light and compact and how you get such great pictures out of such a small area of glass amazes me haha.
