Sorry for the simple question, but i'm confused, On my 600d set in M mode the only change i can make to the exposure is a bracketed exposure where 3 lines appear under the compensation bar, I cant seem to move it as one bar for one photo?
When i go into the menu screen and exp comp/AEB the +/- icon isnt highlighted as it is in Av mode where i can change it via the left and right buttons, and on the quick menu via the wheel.

Is there a setting i cant find to change it from AEB to single in M mode? or am i trying to do something i cant do?

Sorry if it seems confusing im struggling how to put it into words :oops:

Are you basically trying to set some exposure compensation while in "M" (manual)? If that is what you are trying to do, I don't think it is possible. Just simply dial in what you desire by setting aperture or shutter speed.

There was a previous thread on this topic. The bottom line is that "exposure compensation" as used by Canon means adjusting the auto-exposure calculated by the camera by a set amount +/-. Since M mode, by definition, has no auto-exposure calculated by the camera, the exposure compensation setting is not used.

You set the exposure in M mode. If you want +1 stop over what the meter says, just open the lens up one stop, slow the shutter by one stop, do each by 1/2 stop, or whatever combination you choose.

When you in M mode have set the exposure such that the meter scale at the bottom of the viewfinder (which in AE modes is a compensation scale, but in M mode a light metering scale) is at the center, you've set exposure the same way as the camera would have done, had you used the P mode or whatever.

When you change a setting so the meter needle moves away from the center, you are doing the same thing as exposure compensation would have done in an automatic mode.
