Your problem is that you are too quick to jump to conclusions. I bet all you've tried is silver ring or gold ring tacks. Move up to an L tack, and they'll be sharp. Also, have you tried upping your sticking speed? (How fast you push a tack into the board to stick it).

Although this thread goes round and round, I have to say, I never thought to ask if tacks were sharp. But why a picture is compared to a tack, that is weird.
