I did cut my cord in half. Now I use the eBay triggers for off camera stuff, I resoldered the cord back together.

Still in progress.. I'm trying to find 6-pin cheap and small connectors which has locking mechanism.. Something like this:
But those are too expensive.. It's cheaper to buy new cord than 6 pcs of those.. Doesn't make sense. ![]()

I will say that if you intend to replace the cable instead of splicing it, be very careful I had to recover from two oopsies. First the diode came loose from the pin on the flash end of the cable. When I tried to reattach it I go thte pin a little hot and it moved. I was able to move it back. I soldered a short wire to the pin and attached the diode to it in stead of the pin. The screws that hold the cases together are very soft so be sure and use the correct size screw driver. They were in VERY tight on my cord. I had to drill on out because my screwdriver sliped and striped out the head. No biggie but now I am short one screw. I took me about three hours to do the whole thing start to finish but at less than 100.00 bucks it was worth the effort.

MarkMathews Member 42 posts Joined Jan 2005 More info | I tried to make the extension talked about here using components from Action Electronics (they recommended regular din connectors as they are larger and easier to work with). The coiled cord (now with din connectors in the middle) works fine, but when I attach the 50 foot extension (too long?) it will fire the flash but no ettl control and no zoom. I checked to see if any wires were touching the metal casing on the connectors (I put tape on them, just in case) and checked continuity. One question, I get continuity on pins 1,2,4,and 5 but not #3 (as shown on earlier illustrations on this thread). This is the case with the coiled cord only or with the extension. I didn't check this before I cut the coiled cord but everything works fine with just the coiled cord. Anyone else have the issue? I'm stumped. I do get continuity on all wires on the extension btw.

If you have a set of jewlers screwdrivers, you can unscrew the off camera module and see if the wire maybe broke loose from the solder joint on the contact.
