AFIK ETTL is disabled in manual mode entirely I think?

ETTL is disabled entirely on EOS-M/ ST-E2 combo. It appears that ST-E2 is no longer backward compatible with the EOS-M. Built in focus assist light on ST-E2 does not trigger.

This is what I am concerned. The thing is that in the manual it said that by purchasing a Canon EOS M, it will come with a CD that consists of a number of softwares including EOS Utility. Reading further into EOS Utility, it gives a description on what you can do within that software which one being able to use the "Camera Setting/Remote Shooting. This manual is clearly a dedicated manual for Canon EOS M and not a general one so my guess is that one should be able to get access to that feature with no problem.
I tried investigating this issue but did not get any solid results :(.

I tried to find it on the Canon website for the EOS-M but I could not. I would call Canon. If you are in the USA, call 1-800-OKCANON.

Good luck!

I'm in the UK and I'll give them a call about this. Thank you and everyone's input.
Happy snapshots!

I can't wait to find out two new lenses they announce. I'm assuming the 55mm f/1.3 will be one of them and I'll be getting that one for sure.
If I really like the new M I might give my current one to my wife and get it for me down the road. We could share the lenses & stuff...

Still LOVING the M, btw. It makes a great little video camera as well. I'll post some pictures of my video setup (w/ loupe & mic) soon in the "show us your camera..."

what differentiates the eos m is small form factor, if only they could add a bit of speed to the AF

My adapter is a bit weird, it works fine, but every now and then it tries to move the L lens to infinity without touching any of the controls or shutter button, the move is made up of small gradual movements.

Does anyone else's adapter do this. ?

I don't think that has anything to do with your EF adapter, but more likes your camera is set for enable continuous AF for still.
Have this little "M" guy and EF adapter for couple weeks. I really liked this combo:

Incredible shot Rob!

Man, this CR2 rumor is putting a damper on my trigger finger...
I guess I'll have to wait for the Feb/Mar announcement then. That's when I get my bonus anyway...

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!

It's funny but I've narrowed it down, with any EF-M lens or adapter the EOS M is continuously trying to find focus even in one shot and servo mode, you don't even have to hold the shutter button.

It like some sort of effort to improve AF by having some sort of prefocusing.

Can others check this as well, you don't even have to hold down the shutter button it will still try and focus what ever the AF box is on. In one shot mode it only locks AF with the half shutter press

I believe I turned this behaviour off on my EOS M by setting Continuous AF to Disabled.

Just got my EOS M a few days ago and have been starting to play with it. Like splbound said, you can turn this feature off in the menu by setting Continuous AF to "Disabled".

I don't see any real improvement in AF speed with either option and feels like a waste of battery power in picture mode. It seems like its constantly trying to focus wherever you've placed the focus point on the camera, and since its mainly a hand-held point-and-shoot moving about everywhere, its constantly confused. Its probably very useful in video mode once you've focused on an object or a person's face using face detection. That worked well when I tested it and I can see video users very happy with it.
