I really don't feel like googling it and wading thru hundreds of results...

C'mon, really?

Here's a hint: www.canonusa.com (external link)

Here's another: http://www.dpreview.com/previews/ (external link)

I presume you can take it from there...

I clicked on the Canon link you gave me, and it didn't say anything about something called an "EOS-M". In fact, it was just a generic home page for the site.

So, I typed "EOS-M" in the search box at the top. The results I got were far too extensive, and I was just as overwhelmed as I am when I use Google. There were 5 pages of search results, with 15 items per page. 75 different products answering to the name of EOS-M. No wonder I can't figure out what Skygod is talking about.

Here were the results from just the first page:

Now I'll try the other link. Hopefully that is not equally ridiculous.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Ok, so I checked the other link you gave me. That was also faulty. Again, it was just a link to the DPReveiw home page, not a page that specifically described this "EOS-M" thing that Skygod has discussed.
So, I entered the term, "EOS-M" in the DPReview search box, and this was the response:

Maybe my browser is just bad. Could somebody else try to enter this in one of the aforementioned search boxes, and see if you actually get what you're looking for?
Or, better yet, just explain what it is.

A couple Japanese reviews / impressions have gone up in the past few days. Nothing we didn't know about before though.

This is a camera you'll want to demo in-store before buying, preferably if you're intending to adapt your existing lenses with it. Not just to try out the AF but to get a feel for the setup when you adapt existing lenses to it.

Thanks, Monty
Those are good links.
This camera is interesting, but I think it may be best for "regular people", as it does not seem to meet the IQ needs of a stock photographer.
But who knows, perhaps they will continue to explore this technology, and eventually offer it in a much bigger package, complete with a sensor that will rival the IQ of any full frame DSLR on the market.

Sorry for overestimating you. I assumed you would be able to click on the "cameras" link on the CanonUSA site, and be able to do a similar thing on the dpreview site... they do list reviews by brand and model. As I said, sorry for overestimating you.

I assumed you would be able to click on the "cameras" link on the CanonUSA site ... they do list reviews by brand and model.

But then I would have to look thru all of the brands and models until I found what I was looking for. Exactly what I was afraid I would have to do if I used a google search, and exactly what I wanted to avoid having to do. Not to mention I wasn't even sure what I was looking for, as I had never even heard of it.

My internet connection is extremely slow. Realize that once I click on a webpage, it takes 20-30 seconds for it to finally appear. That's a big reason I wanted a direct link, not an indirect one.

Most people don't want to have to click on several things, wait a long time for pages to load, then look thru lengthy lists of things, focusing carefully on all of the text so that they don't inadvertently skip over what they were looking for. A direct link works so much better!

This camera was not made to replace full frame DSLRs. It isn't really a replacement for crop DSLRs either. The IQ of this camera is actually one of its real strengths because it has a sensor larger than most cameras this size. It is the combination of a decent size sensor in a really small camera that makes it special. The not so super fast AF, lack of OVF or EVF and lack of physical controls are what will keep it from being adopted by many photographers. But, I think way more will be buying it than you would think by listening to the forum ramblings.

If you want full frame quality in a small package you need to shell out the big money for a Leica M9, M, or M-E. Or maybe you could go with the Sony RX1. All of those are WAY out of the $800 price range of the EOS-M (3-7 times the price).

I have a EOS-M on order and can't wait to have it in my hands. It will be a great backup as well as a walk-around that will never leave my side.

I suppose that comes down to your image requirements. The sensor is is a CMOS Digic 5 18mp APS-C (same as in the T4i I think) so there's no reason that you shouldn't be getting very good quality images.

The whole size reduction comes from the exclusion of the mirror and pentaprism viewfinder (and maybe some other bits and pieces)

^^and what Wayne said:D

Cheers, Paul.
If it moves, shoot it. If it shoots back, get a bigger lens.

Tom, I understand about having a slow connection, but here's the thing: you have posted to this thread 5 times, which means that you've had at least 11 times when you were waiting for pages on this site to load.

Compared to simply going to google.com and typing "EOS-M" into the search. The googles results are, in order of appearance:

- DPReview's "hands-on preview" of the EOS-M camera
- A Canon website page for the kit that includes this camera and the 22mm native prime lens that has been released.
- B&H Photo's "in depth" preview of the new camera
- Imaging-resource.com's hands-on preview of the new camera
- Ken Rockwell's page on the EOS-M.

So rather than the 11 page views that you have done for this thread, you could have googled it and read the Canon product page plus 4 complete reviews of the camera, while only waiting for 7 pages to load.

I know that it's against the rules of this site to tell people to "go google it" but the simple fact is that you wasted a lot of time by refusing to do so.

But I like looking at the forum, and once I load a page, re-viewing it later is fast because my computer has already "been there".
And I don't like to search for things via Google; it is just unpleasant, whereas reading stuff here on POTN is pleasant.
It's not just about saving time, it's mostly about what I like vs. what I find a bit unpleasant or annoying. I'll do what I like, even if it takes longer. And I'll avoid what I don't like, even if it may save a few moments.

Hey, now I'm up to 6 posts to this thread - how cool is that!!!

In the animal world, some animals hunt for their food and some animals hang out near campgrounds and beg for whatever scraps they can get. I'm sure that the ones that choose to beg find it more "pleasant" than hunting, but that doesn't mean that it's healthy for them or that such behavior should be encouraged.
