Hey all,

I didn't know where a good place to ask this question was so I thought I'd plug it in here and see what people say.

I found a Hasselblad 501 CM medium format body with back and 80mm f/2.8 lens for just under 2k in nice condition. I was wondering if anyone here through this was a decent deal for such a classic combo?

Cheers,

Is that the Zeiss 2.8 lens? and A12 back?

Around $2k is what they ask for them. I've seen them sell on Ebay for under $1100.

Yes I believe both that I've found are the planar Zeiss 2.8 lens and both with the A12 back. one I found for ~1900 and the other for 1200 but the 1200 one seems to have more wear from what I can see.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll search around some more too. I'd really like to find one of those pocket size 120 cameras but can't seem to find one with good baffles as a decent price.

I thought the price is a bit high for me. On ebay, is around a bit over 1k.

I use KEH as a metric for used equipment value. Price should be well under the price at KEH for equipment in equal condition. KEH is a known vendor with a return policy, i.e. you assume higher risk purchasing from an individual.

Last year I sold a 500CM, 500ELM, 50/80/150 Zeiss lenses, prism finder, 4- 120 backs, Hasselblad bellows lens-shade and a few other small items (focusing screens, quick release tripod mount, etc) for $2500.00. Granted, it was an older system than the 501, but it was all in very good condition....and at that price, it took a l-o-n-g time to find a buyer.

With that said, and maybe the 501 commands a premium(?) but I'd personally be looking in the 1K range.

My answer for most photography questions: "it depends...'

Anybody see the price of what an SWC in really good shape is fetching now 'days?

I always preferred the 500 C/M (had 3 some years back)..Wish I would have held on to at least one and a 50 CF FLE and my 180 CF...

I was just in a local camera store (small town on SF Peninsula) and a Hasselblad 500ELM with f/2.8 lens back and finder was about $1500.

I picked up a 500C with 75mm f2.8 for $350.

Had money left over to set up a dark room and buy another back.
