I am trying to decide between these two. I will be running the full adobe suite and of course using it for photo editing on the go. Have an Alienware desktop that is superb but need to upgrade the the laptop. Both machines look great the Dell options you get an upgradeable machine and more for your money based on specs. Apple won't tell you which intel quad-core it is using the M4700 I get a i7-3840Q . I am would purchase both with 16G RAM.
Anyone here who can offer their experience good or bad with either machine?

If your desktop is a Windows machine I would think that you'd be better off sticking with a windows laptop.

I think I am leaning toward the M4700 for the price, specs and the ability to upgrade it. The MBP retina just has such a gorgeous display; but the M4700 I can get it with anti glare 1920 x 1080 display which is no slouch either.

I wouldn't overlook the Lenovo W530. I went through your same exercise not too long ago myself. I ended up with the Lenovo T530 mainly due to budget constraints and because I valued portability/battery life.

The T530/W530 have an optional FHD screen that is 95% color gamut. I have that and can tell you for certain that it calibrates wonderfully. You obviously lose the viewing angles of an IPS, but the color accuracy is on par or better than some IPS screens. I love the fact that I could upgrade the RAM and essentially run three harddrives internally with the T530. I considered the Dell, but the price difference was astronomical.

Using this link (external link) to the Barnes and Noble Lenovo program, you can really save some serious cash on certain configurations. Specials change almost weekly. Anyone can register and sign up.

I am an apple person myself. For me, Dells have been the absolute worst computers to deal with. Windows in general don't like me lol. I would rather pay extra for dependability and get a computer that does everything I need it to do than get the cheaper product with better specs and less money but that freezes left, right, and center.

Just for software, you should stick with what you've got for a desktop though, so you don't have to buy everything twice.

5.95 pounds according to this http://www.lenovo.com …inkpad-w530-datasheet.pdf (external link) . I have a new W530 with the HD screen and can say that it is amazingly vivid and crisp and calibrated well with my Spyder 3.

Software version no problem I have a creative cloud subscription. Windows 7 has been great and very reliable no freezing. I have not experienced any stability issues and I run allot of software.
