I should have researched it myself but as a starter body, I am happy with it. It still knows more than I do.

I once heard a salesperson advise a couple to get a point and shoot instead of a dSLR because it had a smaller sensor and therefore gave better image quality, and that was what the pros used anyway.

I was literally in shock.

Don't think I would have been in shock. I might have fainted after laughing so hard but I have heard sales people spout so much BS in the past that I would never take anything they say as true unless I know that from other sources.

Well, a slower shutter speed can lead to a blurry picture, and that's what depth of field is, right?!
