After years of doing "flat" looking HDR's, someone just turned me on to Luminosity Masking, and even more impressive was the discovery of Tony Kuyper's site http://www.goodlight.us/writing/tutorials.html (external link).
Its still taking me a bit to figure out and actually use them, but I'm getting there, and what a great effect it has on images. I can't overstate it they really make an image pop.
So how many here actually use them, and are there better sites to explain it more ?

In the BLR (Before Light Room) era I used luminousity masks constantly; not for HDR, for tone mapping regular single exposure photos. But that was a couple years ago. Actually the luminousity masking is built in to LR, under the hood.

By under the hood I assume you mean into the basic tone sliders?

Since I read Tonys Tutorials I really love it. Works much better than LR.

I also was glad to find out about luminosity masks. They also can be used to burn and dodge through for wonderful effects. Another site that is worth a look is www.hougaardmalan.com/blog/category/tutorials/ (external link)
