I received My SX50 from a member here on Weds. and was able to play with it a bit yesterday and today.

Here are a couple HDR images from the camera

The wind was blowing and made the tree in background look funny,

Just got my sx50 yesterday and weather has been pretty bad since, but caught a short dry spell this morning out in the garden. Pleased so far, focusing seems much faster than sx40. Jacqui.

Took the camera to the Zoo todayand shot a few of the animals that were out here are some results. All were shot in auto mode I shot some in raw but my PS5 or LR4 won't open them so I'm not sure what to do on this.

Like them all, but especially the tight shot of the orange bird. I've struggled to get feather details in my Northern Cardinal shots, something about those intense red-oranges that my SX30 had trouble with. Just got the SX50 and like the much improved focus capabilities, and your shots look like that's not the only improvement!

All the images posted in the thread? One in particular? The ones you've taken personally?
Could you be more specific?

that is a "fair" comparison.

I compared my SX50 with my 1Ds and 24-70. The SX surprised me with how good it looks. Not as good as my G9 (which at 35mm equiv. is very close to the 24-70), much better than my^^ my wife's SX1. I shot a sequence from 24 to 1200, of a wire fence, and all focal lengths are pretty good, even in the corners. Amazing for $425.

Exposure defaults a little hot, but being able to take usable P&S shots at ISO1600 floors me! The IS is amazing, along with the 'extended' IS button, making hand-held 1200mm shots good most of the time.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

This is a great shot considering the poor weather. :D
