To get pedantic about it, it's not the zoom range that makes stabilization necessary, it's what the f/l is at the long end. This lens' zoom range is 24-1200 ff equivalent. If they made it 100x without changing the long end by making it 12-1200, the stabilization requirement would be the same.

Not terrible, but just slow enough to make you miss a few action shots unless you can anticipate the timing.
