Hello All,

I shoot car photography, usually outdoors and just got a CPL to minimize or the annoying reflections. I always have a UV on my lens so the question is:

Can I just use the CPL on top of the UV so I don't need to swapping filters and just put it and take it out with ease? The light is not a concern as I shoot mostly Outdoors but I don't know if the image quality will be affected by having two filters (more glass) at the same time. Filters are Hoya though...

Have anybody do or done that?

You're feedback will be appreciated...

-Erik

You can. Just be careful not to get them stuck together. Slim CPL stuck on a UV filter is not fun to deal with. There is probably going to be a hit to IQ but not enough to really notice unless you're staring at it 100%.

I'd use the CPL by itself. The more layers of glass you stack up front, the more you risk image degradation. Sometimes this can't be helped, such as stacking a CPL with an ND filter, but in your case the UV filter is superfluous when the CPL is on there.

This may be an unnecessary post, but you are aware that the CPL can only reduce reflections from glass or water, not from metal or painted surfaces? I only make this comment because I've met a couple of relatively experienced photographers who were unaware of that limitation.

Just use the CPL. Stacking filters can also lead to vignetting, depending on how wide your lens is, or at the widest focal-lengths on some zooms.

I bought it for the glass ones specially the windshield and the sides, I take 2 shots and then merge the different shots in post. Thanks though :D
