Just a noob wanting to know if there is a big difference in the imports and domestic copy of the canon lenses? And if someone could explain these to me. Do they honor rebates on imports??

I usually buy the "import" lens or flash. Same stuff and no rebate forms to mess with.

Rebates don't apply (usually) to the import versions. Supposedly, warranty repairs have to be sent to the importer instead to to Canon USA (I assume you were talking about US versions vs. imports), but I've never heard of Canon USA refusing to do warranty work on imports. But then, I've never had to send in anything for warranty repair myself, so take my comment with a big grain of salt.

Unless you are from Japan, I'd be very careful if I was offered a "domestic" copy of a Canon lens. It must be fake.

Have anybody ever seen or heard of a fake canon lense?

Misunderstanding - by "domestic", OP was referring to a lens with the warranty from the local (e.g. Canon USA, Canon UK, Canon Australia depending on where you live) Canon subsidiary rather than "grey-market" lenses, manufactured by Canon but "parallel imported" by the retailer, who bought them from some other Canon subsidiary who was offering better terms than the local one. It'd be very hard to make a convincing fake Canon lens, not least due to the electronics involved.

Quote from the Popular Photography website.

Be aware that two types of products are currently being advertised: "Grey" market which are products imported through channels other than the regular manufacturer (also known as "parallel imports") and "U.S." warranty merchandise imported by the manufacturer and carrying the regular manufacturer's warranty. There is no difference in quality between the two, despite what some imaginative salesmen may claim. Our recommendation is to go with U.S. warranty merchandise.

At B&H click on the word "USA" or "imported" and it tells you the difference. It's just the warranty, the lenses are identical.
