Could some one tell me how big of a difference 1.8 is from the 2.8?? How much does that effect the low light situation??

Choose an EV number in the 2.8 column then estimate the 1.8 shutter speed between the 2.0 and 1.4 columns. You'll see that for the same EV number you'll gain a significant amount of shutter speed.
