The image looks a little on the soft side to me, is this cropped? Also the bird seems to be swimming uphill, a small custom rotation to the left would cure that and lastly the composition could be improved by cropping, putting the bird more to the right and a little lower in the frame. Just my thoughts though. You are right, the duck was at a great distance and the camera was not as level as it should have been. I have rotate the angle 2 degrees and cropped the original post.
