These were spotted in the marsh, the normal house finches are more rosey in color, but looking in the bird books, didn't seem to fit.

GaryFairhead Cream of the Crop More info | Dec 29, 2005 01:20 | #2 I checked a couple of my guides Denis and I keep coming back to the House Finch. I looked at sparrows as well. It does have that finch beak and the feathers and wings also brings me back to the House Finch. Colors are out of synch though with what appears to be orange over eye and under wings?? Perhaps a juvenile or it is molting . Someone on this forum will surely know exactly what it is. I had a duck about a month ago that was identified as a Hybrid ( Black duck and Mallard). Sorry I don't have the answer....nice clean shots btw. Gary Fairhead C/C welcome .....

There were several birds and all were this orangish color and not the typical reddish color. I have the more typical finches at my feeder all the time. Thanks Gary for the comments. Dennis

I've personally never seen one of these uncommon variations, and you not only seen one but photographed it nicely too. Daniel Cadieux

This looks like a Cassin's Finch to me: http://www.birds.cornell.edu/BOW/CASFIN/ Thanks for stopping by and commenting. The problem is the orange color, not a bit of red at all. There were several birds that looked like this. Dennis
