Some photos of a Great Horned Owl I found the other day. Wished I could have got an in flight picture. Let me know what you think.

1. Peeking around the tree.

I agree about #3. Unique perch and I like how the owl sticks out from the background while still being able to see why it has such effective cammo (with the colors on the owl being repeated back there). A really nice shot.

Very nice. Did you shoot these hand held? Very sharp for a 500mm + 1.4X at 1/640 sec.

Thanks guys. Yes these were shot hand held. I really prefer the freedom handheld offers although it can get tiresome! I think they could be sharper myself. I haven't figured out why sometimes my photos are very sharp and other times not so much. I'd like to think it's not me and that my 7d has a mind of it's own but I'll have to do some testing.

Thanks al, and yes I was very fortunate. I've been searching for owls since I got my 500 which was a few months ago.

Great shots of the owl, it's amazing how well it blends in with the fall foliage. Also that old farm equipment makes a cool perch.
