It never makes sense to me when folks talk about issues with the 50D and high ISO. My biggest image quality problem with the xxD/5D (pre MkIII) cameras is that they suck at low light autofocus. My 50D has some noise but is perfectly useable at 3200 ISO in most lighting conditions.

Here is an example from one of my 50Ds. It was shot at 1/4 sec, f/2.8 at 3200 ISO in an underground coal mine exhibit.

Here is a 100% crop of a RAW image at ISO1600 from the 60D. This is sooc RAW, just cropped for the forum and was taken with a Canon 55-250mm at f5.6.

Here is my processed version resized to 1024px. I didn't use any noise suppression.

I would say the 40d is better than the 50d for noise, some will disagree. Maybe my copy was not great but I had a 50d and preferred the 40d. I also had a 550d t2i and that was better than the 50d for noise. I now have a 7d and feel that is better. There is no arguing if you really know how to use a camera you can get great images even at high ISO's but I believe the 18mp newer canon sensors to be easier to work with than the 15mp one in the 50d

I went from the 40D to the 60D and love it. Can't comment on low light as I shoot mainly outdoors.

On my 40d iso 1000 is the top of the bracket for me. At Iso 1250/1600 with my 17-40, the images are extremely grainy. I don't care so much about the noise, it's the grainy part.

that photo was taken with the 16-35 mk2 i have also used 1250 and 1600 with no problems with the same lens

i have used the 17-40 and liked how it preformed but i went for the 16-35, as i am hoping to go ff soon.

just a through do you think your lens needs a service and calibrating?

if yes it may help you and it be cheaper than a new camera.

I love the 60D ergonomics, swivel screen, control layout and price/performance ratio... no buyer's remorse here. ;) Shot post-golden hour into blue-hour with 60D @ ISO 3200. Handheld, no flash, no cropping, no noise reduction in post processing...

I see you have the 5dm1 as well. Pick one and why?

Sorry... I have a 5D2, not a 5DC. I can't comment on the 5DC... never owned one. I know this goes against common preference, but if I had to make the tough choice between a 5D2 and a 60D, I'd still choose the 60D. I leave my 5D2 at work. It's great for studio and purpose-assignments. But when I'm headed out to shoot with nothing specific on my mind, I prefer the 60D for the ergonomics and control layout. When outdoors, I shoot via viewfinder 99% of the time and I love all controls on the right where everything I commonly change is at my right thumb and index finger leaving my left hand for lens support and making lens adjustments. For me, it's just plain faster and more intuitive. The twisty-LCD screen... many make fun of it... I love it for those occasional times when I need to shoot above a crowd or need to shoot really low and don't feel like getting dirty and bitten up (like the cat in the field shot above). I love the higher burst rate of the 60D and the AF seems a tad faster and more accurate. Low light performance seems to be tied between the two. There are a lot of little things that shine with the 60D... not sure you care to read a novel. ;)
