Hey I am thinking of picking up one of these bodies just for the video option. So my question is am I going to see any difference in the video quality between these bodies? Or would I be better off saving some cash and just picking up the t2i?

thanks

If it's for video, save the dough and go t2i and put magic lantern on it.

t4i has STM support and also autofocus during video, these will be big benefits if you are willing to pay ~$650 used for a mint body.

T4i will AF/MF for video where as the others are only MF and the T4i has a touch screen but that's it as faras video is concerned.

Without an external monitor, no swivel screen is a deal breaker for video to me. I grab my 60d or even SX20 for video over my T2i based on swivel screen alone. It just makes it so much easier all of the time.

I've seen examples of the continuous AF with the T4i and STM lenses and its not as impressive in use as it is on paper, BUT it does have it atleast. Understanding it and working within that should be fine (it is not camcorder AF).

If money isn't so much the issue, I would get the T4i. If so, T3i. Personally wouldn't include the T2i as a choice for strictly video use. Magic Lantern hasn't come out for the T4i yet I don't think, but when it does, I would get it immediately ;) (already available for the T3i)

+ 1. Image Quality is exactly the same on all of them, and don't believe the hype with the T4i Auto Focus. It doesn't work very well. It constantly goes in and out of Focus. Save the cash and get a T2i with a Lens.

If you just want video then a camcorder would be a better option for AF, DSLR's are more manual focus for shooting video.

Any "videographer" laughs at these "autofocus" comments. No one serious about video uses autofocus. EVER. Especially with something able to use such shallow DOF lenses. The ONLY reason to go higher (and I mean only) is for the articulating screen, but you can get a much bigger external screen for the same price difference.

I'd rather go with the t2i and something from "coollcd" for the same price as t4i.

And just so your know... I have used them all... from t2i to 5D2. If you're not going full frame and it's simply for video, go t2i.

I assume that if you want it for video, and it's a DSLR, you also want it to be a camera. As a camera, the t4i is leaps and bounds - well, at least significantly, better than the t2i- but at a cost too.. With its all cross type AF system usually reserved for non-Rebels.... Video AF- is a nicety- for example, maybe you will manually focus- but maybe the spouse will not want to... the touch screen kind of makes up for the pro bodies more controls.. It's also goes a bit higher in ISO capabilities..

The swivel screen might help with composition- especially for video..

Yeah, but did you notice the key points here

It's for video.
It's for his wife who wants a starter camera (i.e. possibly easier to use or maybe smaller .. )

I know my spouse hates biggish cameras. Sometimes a smaller camera is nice to have around..

Yes I want it for video as I will mainly use it, as for my wife it would be used so she can learn the basic functions of a camera before moving up to either my 50d or 1d
