I have hundreds of old family photos of photos to scan in. I worked for several hours with my Canon AIO and the included software will automatically crop each picture, but it's a small scanning area (letter size). I only got up to about 175.

At work, we have a huge copier on the network that would fit MANY more pics on the glass, but there's no scanning software that will auto-crop since it's not hooked up locally. I guess this is fine since Photoshop can do this. My question is, Is there a way I can do this as a batch that will handle file naming? Under photoshop, I assume I would have to save each individual pic after it's cropped. Just looking for advice on how to automate and autosave/name each pic.

I think it depends on what the photocopier is capable of...I had similar task using works photocopier a Konica Minolta C224. First set to scan at max res. 600dpi and to JPEG (it allows TIFF but for some reason the TIFFs aren't always readable by LR or other software without converting in PS first). I used the sheet feeder to do the scanning in batches, need to ensure photos above a minimum size else they will not feed without jamming. The scanned photos get saved in multi image single JPEG file stored in a USER BOX on the copier. The files are then accessed using workstation software which enables you to copy the files to your local disk/storage device. The filenaming is taken care off by the copier and the software - the files can be renamed using Windows once they are saved to your storage. The photocopier can be set to define the original sizes of the photos before scanning, this helps but not always, so I found that scanning to A4 the white space was easy and quick to delete using PSE Divide scanned photos tool.

I still find it confusing that a photocopier can scan a 100 photos in seconds but a a desktop scanner will take several minutes per a scan...

I'm using a Canon iRCa7055. I tried to use some software but it wouldn't work with a network scanner. Other than that, I was able to fit a bunch of pics on the glass and scan. So now I have a folder full of large collages of pics. Photoshop has the Crop and Straighten, but it's not working as well as I thought, and cropping and saving 1 by 1 is painfully slow...
