First off

these are all shot in raw, straight off the camera, imported in LR as a DNG, exported as a JPEG,,3000 long side...... nothing else done

2nd

this was a low key wedding, nothing real fancy, reception at a town hall-- play nice

Nickson is going to help me with the analysys of these files because he is better than this than i am can get them posted at 100% for you too see.

This is the email i sent to nick

Dear

Im sending these files to you for your analysis, these are straight offs with nothing done. Imported as a DNG exported as a JPEG 3000 long side. I believe you are completely right on your analyses of the 1Dx and 5D3 iso comparisons, Its not a stop. Probably 3/4 to my eyes, definitely more than a 1/2. 10000 on the 1Dx is 6400 on the 5D3. IQ is better on the 1Dx and to my eyes i would say its noticeable Under 1000 iso and the 1Dx is remarkable similar to the 1Ds files,,crazy clean awesome detail and IQ.

Low light focusing. I think its exactly the same as the 5D3,, both are a little sluggish in 1 shot and take more time to lock than i would have hoped for when its dark. there have been some complaints about this. Its slower than i would have hoped for as well,, buts is much better than the MKIV. Frankly, i dont think the 5D3,1Dx,or MKIV can hold a candle to how well the 1DMKIII locks in low light. Too bad canon can get this formula right on the newer bodies and keep the iso performance.

Servo is where the 1Dx shines, especially with facial recognition.. just doesn't miss so thats a huge plus. Its servo is more sensitive than the 5D3 and picks up focus quicker. 1Dx very usable up to 12500 iso,,BUT,,,16000 iso and up,,in my opinion,, only if you have to use it. You were right again, file deterioration and loss of detail is terrible when viewed at 100%,, 20000 is not usable in my opinion. here they are. I will let you add to the post if you would not mind because you can pull them at 100% for comparisons much better than I can.

My opinion.... 5D3 is remarkable at its price point. If you need the very best IQ, Iso, and af performance.. the 1Dx is the camera to get. The 1Dx beat a 5D3 for sure,,,, BUT,,, not by a lot. If i were to rate these on a scale of 1-10,,the 1Dx is a 10,, the 5D3 is an 8-8.5 and the 5D2 would be a 5.5. 1Dx has great ISO performance until 12800 ISO. 1Dx AF system is faster or more accurate than a 5D3 is servo, both cameras are slow to lock in one shot in very dark lighting,,but ,, both noticeably better than the MKIV. The 5D2 is at the bottom of the list in all comparisons

5D3 files from 6400,8000.10000 exact same lighting

manually set the 1Dx to very high IsO settings...My opinion is that 16000 ISO in a pinch,,20000 iso not usable due to severe image deterioration and loss of detail at 100% its terrible

here are a few at 16-20000 iso. I will repost in a few which are which

took 850 shots with this 1Dx so i will get a few more up later today or tomorrow. Hope there is enough here with what nick is going to post to give you enough info about how these things compare to each other in terms of ISO performance. AF system on the 1Dx is faster and very very accurate. Both cameras are slow in 1 shot when it gets real dark. this has been complained about. Take them out of 1 shot and put them in servo,, they wont miss if you get them close.....but i guess the trick would be geting them there because you cant see the dam box because its black:mad::mad:,,,,,BTW,,,, just kidding:lol:

Mike, I'll check out those files, but frankly I am not all that surprised.
Not trying to rain on the 1DX parade at all. I think if you need the features on the 1DX, well, then, you need them. End of story.

Otherwise, the 5D3 really is a great bargain, if you can call it that at that price point. I know there are some who have had issues with its AF, but for me, it's taken all the guess work out of AF.

If cost wasn't an object, what would be a better camera for weddings between the 1DX and 5D MKIII?

This is the first post that really helps me believe that the 5Diii is worth the investment.

I would say so, for wedding photography at least.
