I have a 5D and I just purchased a 7D. Can you use the EOS Utility to down load the pictures from both cameras or will it only work for one model?

I have a 40D that I have tried to use like that but it never worked. I just pulled the CF card out of the camera or went into it via "my computer."

Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Depending on what software you are running... I personally havent had any success in OSX or windows running canon utility for the 5Dc. 5d2, no problem, but the 5d you can only transfer images from. Something about canon snow bothering to support an older model camera with newer sotfware. Stupid i think...

7d should work no problems though...

Sure does. You can even have different import settings based on camera model.

You could try Zoombrowser, too. That's what I use because my other Canon is not an EOS so EOS utility won't work with it.

When I plug the 5D2 in & switch on Utility always says "camera not recognised" so I shut down & re-open & it's fine then.
450D it never seems to start quick enough & the camera goes into stand by & all the options are dead so have to reawaken it :)

I am running windows Vista and when I bought the 5D, used, I already had the current EOS Utility running at the time. It would not recognize the camera, so I had to find the older software and that rendered the 40D useless per-say. (could not use EOS utility anymore.) I have PS Elements 10 but have not been successful in trying to download pictures from it. Just trying figure out options so when I get it I will not be frustrated like the 5D. I might just go through my computer and download them that way.

I needed to upgrade the EOS Utility after getting a 7D with firmware 2.0.3, once I did that then there were no problems.
