Strange day shooting today, saw some weird stuff.

This first one was flying at first, it was pretty big, about the size of a medium sized mantis, and it looked kind of like a hummingbird as it flew. It landed in some bushes, to where I spotted it sitting in this leaf. It has some kind of grasshopper-type legs, and it's back looks like a leaf, folded in half.

This strange guy was nestled in some bushes, under a leaf. With the tough angle, this was the best I could do...he flew away after this shot.

Again, in the bushes, and on the underside of a leaf. I think it's some kind of Cranefly, but not too sure.

Nice set. I think the first is a Katydid, but different than the species we get here. The last two are both types of small wasps, I believe. (Ichneumonoidea? there are 80,000 species of those things). The first of the two looks like an Ophion.

The 1st one looks like a katydid. rick_reno identified your 2nd as a Ailanthus Webworm moth in one of my posts. Not sure about the 3rd & 4th.

Thanks guys! The Katydid was HUGE, and I think what threw me was how it was flying, really strange & clumsy. We have the other kinds of Katydids, too...this was the first one I saw like this, then I just saw another (smaller one) about an hour ago.

That's a strange moth. Even when it flew away it resembled a Firefly more than a moth.

The 3rd one looked like a Cranefly, but it had the abdomen like a thread-waisted wasp, I was confused, lol.

The 4th one is something I labeled as the Jackrabbit bee, lol, because from the side, it's head looks like a jackrabbit. :)

Thanks again!!!!

Thanks guys! They aren't the best of shots, but I was intrigued. Man, there are soooooo many different types of wasps!

Since I have this thread going, I'm going to add one more that I saw yesterday. It was pretty fast, crawling under cracked bark on a tree. At first, I thought it was some kind of termite or something, but looking online, I saw some labeled as a wasp, some as a sawfly. It had white tipped antennae & legs, and white around it's eyes. Any guesses? Again, not great quality...
