Nice shots for a first attempt. Not sure you'll need a monopod when you've got results like these hand held. For me the monopod just got in the way - okay for long shots but absolutely useless for panning or close up work (i.e. when the car after the one you are following falls off the road and you turn quickly to try to capture the aftermath and crack your shins with the monopod).

These are very nice, good job. And I agree, there's no need for a monopod (unless you're using really long lenses).

Stephan, no matter how good you get at panning, you'll still get some blurry photos (just fewer of them). As long as you get some you're happy with you're going in the right direction (just keep at the same shutter speed till you get more photos you are happy with then slow the shutter speed down).

As long as you enjoy the challenge keep at it, and you have made a good start.

First time shooting motorsports? These shots are better than some professionals. Nice job.

Very nice for a first attempt at motorsport.
Don't know why you'd need a monopod, it will only be in your way when you're making panning shots. Never mind if you've got to throw some away, not every shot can be a good one. You could use a monopod at the exit of Hocheichen where you took the first picture, the hole in the fence is a bit low there to get a firm stand.

I'll be at the Ring on Saturday, last race of the year ... should be a good one (but pretty cold).

Great work on these, Im with the others don't waste your money on a mono pod unless your using a 400 or something that gets weighty.

Like the heats haze in the first one.... on my screen its maybe a little dark for me, I would try pulling out a little touch of shadow? Or maybe its just my MAC

look forward to more.
