I bought the Pixel King unit so i could use my 580EX flash w/ a pocketwizard, as that flash lacks the PC port that the 580EXIIs have. seems pretty straightforward to me, to lock the unit on the foot of the flash, use the cord to connect the units together, but unfortunately i can't get the flash to fire in any manner. not via the test button, or by triggering via the PW mounted on my camera's hot shoe.

any advice?

Do the pocket wizards and Pixel Kings even use the same frequency?

this is direct connection...basically i thought it was a solution to give the 580EX a way to trigger via a PW.

Does it work with the flash in manual mode?

Your flash is in eTTL mode and the switch is in the slave position in the picture. Switch it to MANUAL and get the switch back to OFF. Slave is only for using the Canon master/slave arrangement.
If that does not work send that back and get this unit from Flash Zebra.

The Pixel TF-321 has had three different wiring setups, but all were designed to go onto a camera to add a PC-sync out port.

You need a PC-sync-in to hotshoe adapter, and drive the flash using manual power levels.

You have the adapter that goes in a camera hotshoe to add a PC port. The unit that you have has a foot with contacts. The unit for a flash has a threaded socket in the foot instead of contacts. Take a look at the picture of the Flash Zebra unit I linked to. You will see the difference.
