From last month's Wings over Gatineau. It was the first time I got to see them do their full routine, and even though I shot at 1/1000 I'd recommend faster than that. All photos were from a 1D mark 4 / 28-300 L IS combo

I was tracking the one coming from the left

Who Knew?

Jay the weather was just starting to clear up right in that area. We endured a heavy rain about an hour before the performance & it was raining (very dark clouds too) to both the east & west during a good part of the performance.

Randy all of these photos are from Saturday. I think they only made one fly by where they crossed paths on Sunday & it only had 3 planes, so I suspect that one of the pilots who normally flew the routine was grounded due to a sick aircraft.

Frank the timing was sheer luck thanks to the buffer size. I simply tried to judge when to hold down the shutter button and in most cases I let go (after seeing them cross) before the buffer filled. Next time I think I'll use my 35-350 L for that little extra bit of reach.

A skill is developed through constant practice with a passion to improve, not bought.
