Turn-out I found out the thumb grip is great idea and pretty useful (for me). it let me hold my M with more steady, the one I get on ebay is the one with locking screw.

My ideal would be, that the M's thumb *grip* would be a bit bigger so it really would give grip. This kind of external thumb grip were ideal (for me) if it extended above the M's record button where such grip should be. If someone finds a longer thumb grip, please let me know!

Here's a link (external link) (not sure is it OK with POTN moderator) or search for "Serlens thump up grip" on ebay.

Interesting. Does it put any significant stress on the hotshoe?

Interesting. Does it put any significant stress on the hotshoe?

Every thing that protrudes out of the camera gives possibility to some additional grip. This thumb grip is useful and gives just a bit more place to hold the camera with.

I thought about your question when I inserted the thumb grip in my camera's hotshoe, but then realized I am not keeping the cameras weight from this, it is just minor addition to the overall grip. The pressure from thumb is not so much, that it would break anything. I believe, if you added a big flash to the hot shoe to cause more stress on the hotshoe.

When I asked about longer thumb grip, I think a lot longer one could cause more twist on the hot shoe.

I would be more concerned about the "screw" which you have to tighten to make the thumb grip stay in the hot shoe. The "Selens" thumb grip has some kind of "cushion" protecting the hot shoe. I thought it would be the "extra" reason to choose "Selens" model.

Yes sir! Still in alpha but it hasn't given me any problems in the two days I've had it.
I've only messed around with 10% of the features, it has so many :D

Dual ISO and raw video is what i'm trying today.

Interesting to hear experiences with ML. I haven't yet tested it, as it needs to use the same card all the time or every card has to have it "installed". Also it is said it has to be "uninstalled" if no longer used, as I haven't had experiences it sounds a bit uncertain to use. Still pondering if use it or not. It would definitely interest as there is bracketing for more than three shots and this PIP zoom.

I don't think it has to be uninstalled, I can swap between cards and no issues. Even when it's installed you don't have to use it, it's only there when you activate it.

It's doesn't replace the stock menus, I was a bit worried about that. For manual focus it's a dream, it also has focus peak which is a bit nicer than Sony's.

I don't bracket shots but I'll look into it for you. I just shoot film whenever there's a big dynamic range. Supposedly you can get 3 more EV out of dual iso, I think that's 14 total at iso 100.

So far my favorite feature is probably the silent mode, you can take a dng picture without the shutter going off. The M's shutter is quite loud, which kinda sucked for street photography.

Can you PM me an idiots guide to installing it? I put it on my t2i with no issues quite easily, not having as much luck installing it on my M...
